A 2-year-old girl is still in the hospital in critical condition after she was severely injured by her mother’s boyfriend.
Last night at approximately 8:20 PM, Harris County Precinct 4 deputies were at an Exxon gas station in the 25800 block of Cypresswood Dr when a couple arrived seeking help for the unresponsive toddler.
Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until EMS arrived. The child was transported to a local hospital, where medical personnel discovered multiple life-threatening injuries. She was later airlifted to another hospital, underwent surgery, and remains in critical condition.
The toddler’s mother and her boyfriend directed investigators to a residence in the 3000 block of Rendezvous Court, where the child had reportedly become unresponsive. Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the residence.
Investigators determined that the mother’s boyfriend, 29-year-old Gerardo Gonzalez, allegedly struck the toddler multiple times, causing her injuries.
Gonzalez has been charged with Injury to a Child–Serious Bodily Injury and booked into the Harris County Jail. The charge remains an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This little girl remains in critical condition as she continues fighting for her life. The investigation is ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
