The Case of Luis Deleon

Jonathan Hernandez, 18, is charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence – human corpse in the 248th State District Court. On February 15, the U.S. Marshals Office’s Fugitive Task Force and Mexican authorities arrested Hernandez in Mexico. He was extradited back to Texas and booked into the Harris County Jail. His bond is set at $800K.

The victim is identified as Luis Deleon, 19. We reported that Luis had been missing last year. The community shared posters, and the search for Luis was on. Then, on April 20, 2023, we received word that Luis had been found deceased. A picture of that scene is below.

Human remains were found under several wood pallets next to the railroad tracks at 2101 Lee Street by Texas Equusearch on that day. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified the remains as Luis DeLeon’s and discovered he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Further investigation determined Deleon was last seen at 4414 Navigation Boulevard, and Hernandez was identified as a suspect in this case. Detectives learned Hernandez fatally shot Deleon during a robbery. It turns out the suspect lives a few blocks away from where he placed Luis’s body.

Hernandez was subsequently charged on April 27, 2023. He had fled to Mexico but is now in Harris County Jail to face what he did to Luis!

Maritza, Luis’s mom, she said they’ve had to patiently wait for Hernandez to be brought back to face justice. She loves and misses her son so much.

Our prayers and condolences go out to Luis, Maritza, and all his family.
