A man with a prior 2015 intoxication manslaughter conviction is once again in custody in Harris County.
Julio Garza was arrested Tuesday night and is now accused of driving while intoxicated and attempting to evade law enforcement. Garza is currently being held in the Harris County Jail. His bonds are set at $75,000 for driving while intoxicated with a prior intoxication manslaughter conviction and $30,000 for the evading charge. His case is assigned to Judge Ana Martinez, Court 179.
The new charges come years after a deadly crash that led to Garza’s original conviction. Deputies previously said Garza was speeding on Cypresswood Drive when he drove off the roadway and slammed into a tree. Garza was not seriously injured, but his passenger was killed in the crash.
He was arrested, charged with intoxication manslaughter, and ultimately found guilty and convicted. Garza served prison time and was later released on probation.
