DEVELOPING: A 17-year-old boy is dead after a handgun went off while he was showing it to an 18-year-old girl, according to Houston police.
Family members heard the gunshot and rushed to help, performing life-saving efforts before the teen was taken to the hospital — where he later died.
Police say the girl is now at an HPD station giving a statement as investigators work to piece together exactly what happened.
“Treat every firearm as if it is loaded… Take care of your firearms,” an HPD sergeant said at the scene.
