Alfonso Najera Espinal Charged in Fatal Shooting on Telephone Road
Alfonso Najera Espinal, 23, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another injured outside a bar at 4906 Telephone Road around 1:35 a.m. on March 30.
The deceased victim has been identified as 54-year-old Jesus Vasquez. A second victim, a 32-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
According to investigators, Vasquez—who often helped clean the bar—was sitting outside the business talking with an unknown Hispanic male. The two got into a physical altercation that escalated into gunfire, striking both Vasquez and a bystander.
A surveillance image of a person of interest was released on March 30. That person was later identified as Espinal. He was arrested without incident on April 8 by HPD officers and confessed to his involvement in the shooting
