Arrest in Texas Killing Fields Case as Deputies Search Bacliff Home

This morning, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a home in Bacliff belonging to 61-year-old James Elmore as part of the ongoing “Texas Killing Fields” investigation.
Elmore has been charged in connection with the 1986 deaths of Laura Miller and Audrey Cook and is currently being held on a $3 million bond.
Elmore is accused of assisting another suspect, Clyde Hedrick, by helping hide the victims’ bodies and prepare drugs that led to Miller’s death. Hedrick died by suicide in March.
GCSO was seen bringing in an excavator to the scene as part of the search efforts.
Elmore is scheduled to go to trial on August 24, 2026.
