An officer with the South Houston Police Department is in critical condition after being shot by a suspect following a slow-speed chase.
Authorities say the incident began as an attempted traffic stop that escalated into a slow-speed pursuit, ending at a residence on 6th Street near Spencer Highway. When the suspect pulled into the driveway, officers approached the vehicle from both sides and observed the driver on his phone.
Police say the driver refused commands to exit the vehicle, then suddenly produced a shotgun and shot the officer on the passenger side in the head. Officers returned fire. The suspect is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Video sent in by a Hood News Peep. Prayers going up for the Officer.
