Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux has been charged with the fatal shooting of 90 year-old Veteran Mr. Nelson Beckett at the 16800 block Westbrae Parkway around 12:45 PM on Saturday, August 31.
Arceneaux, 21, faces charges of capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault w/ a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence in the 487th State District Court.
Officers responded to reports of an armed assault at an independent living community. They found Mr. Beckett lying in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. HFD transported him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Investigation revealed that Beckett was at his vehicle when he was approached by Arceneaux, who assaulted him, shot him, and stole his belongings. Arceneaux then fled in Beckett’s vehicle, striking him as he left the scene. The stolen vehicle was later recovered at an apartment complex on Dunlap Street.
Through a collaborative investigation involving HPD Homicide, South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team, HPD Gang Division, and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Intelligence Division, Arceneaux was identified as the suspect. He was arrested on Tuesday, September 3, charged, and booked into the Harris County Jail.
UPDATE: Arceneaux now also faces for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon for robbing a student at gunpoint at a dorm at U of H on Aug. 27. Arceneaux was also out on bond when he robbed the student and killed Mr. Beckett.
