Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Good Samaritan Intervening in Assault
HOUSTON, TX – Charges have been filed against 48-year-old Marcus Jack, who was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred around 3 p.m. Monday (Feb. 3) at 101 South Cesar Chavez Boulevard. Jack is charged with murder, assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in the 486th State District Court.
According to investigators, Jack was assaulting a woman he had a dating relationship with when a good Samaritan stepped in to defend her. The man slapped Jack and attempted to walk away, but Jack pulled a gun from his waistband and shot him multiple times. The victim was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Jack fled on foot but was later located and arrested by HPD officers in the 6900 block of Harrisburg Boulevard. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges, and Jack is now booked in the Harris County Jail. The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
