Gonzalo Leon Jr. Charged After Fatally Shooting 11-Year-Old

42-year-old Gonzalo Leon Jr. has been charged with with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 11-year-old Julian Guzman.

The incident happened around 10:55 PM on Saturday Aug. 30 in the 9700 block of Racine Street, when Guzman was reportedly ringing doorbells and running away. A witness said he was running from a house just before being shot. Guzman was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead on Aug. 31.

Initially, one person was detained and questioned but released. Following further investigation, detectives identified Leon as the suspect. After charges were filed on Sept. 1, HPD’s SWAT and CAT units arrested him on Sept. 2, and he is now in custody at the Harris County Jail.
