HPD has arrested 24 year-old Charles Ernest Lopez in connection with the fatal shooting of two elderly men on a walking trail in southwest Houston.
The incident occurred around 5:45 AM on Friday, June 27, in the 14900 block of White Heather Drive. The victims, identified as 68-year-old Natanael Reyes and 74-year-old Guadalupe Flores, were found on the trail with multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say both men were known to walk the trail daily and appeared to have been shot from behind.
The suspect initially fled the scene in a white 4-door sedan. After identifying the vehicle of interest, HPD’s Southwest Patrol Crime Suppression Team conducted a traffic stop on June 30. The driver — identified as Charles Ernest Lopez — admitted to his involvement in the shooting during questioning.
Lopez has been charged with capital murder and is currently in custody.
