In northeast Houston, an officer-involved shooting occurred on Sunday afternoon, sparking an investigation. The incident began with a robbery call at a Family Dollar store in the 3300 block of Liberty. An officer responding to the call received a description of the suspect, a Black male in his 30s, over the radio. Another officer, arriving at the scene in the 2500 block of Brewster, spotted an individual matching this description.
As the officer attempted to approach the suspect for investigation, the suspect fled, leading to a pursuit. A physical struggle ensued when the officer tried to apprehend the suspect, who allegedly tried to disarm the officer. During this confrontation, witnesses reported seeing the officer in a life-threatening fight. The officer, in response, fired his weapon, striking the suspect at least once.
The injured suspect was taken to the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition and undergoing surgery. The officer involved, a two-year veteran in his 20s, also received minor injuries and was hospitalized.
The robbery incident that led to this confrontation involved the suspect stealing beer and assaulting an employee at the Family Dollar store. 15-year-old witness Chrishaud Fennix provided an account of the struggle, mentioning the officer’s attempt to retain control of his taser before using his gun.
