JUST RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE:
Dear Grizzy and Peeps,
I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out as a concerned parent of a Milby High School student. This morning at 9:30 AM, a meeting was held to discuss the tragic loss of Sergio, the student who died in the train/pedestrian accident Monday morning.
Unfortunately, attendance was limited, likely due to the early time. I want to share the key points from the meeting so we can collectively push for change.
We were informed that, as of now, there are no concrete plans or funds to build a safe crossing or bridge for our children to get to school. A bill must be approved, and additional steps need to be taken. This is unacceptable.
Guest speaker Joaquin Martinez joined us and, along with the parents present, stressed the urgency of finding a solution. With today’s technology, there must be a way to address this issue—whether through securing the train wheels to allow safe passage for children or introducing railroad-sidewalk infrastructure, like other neighborhoods have.
Our community deserves better. The lack of sidewalks and safe crossings has already led to another tragedy, involving a man in a wheelchair struck by a train. If Pacific Union won’t adjust their schedules to accommodate school hours, then alternative solutions, like detaching train cars to clear pathways, needs to be explored.
We need to act now. I’m asking for your help to spread the word and encourage parents, community members, and advocates to email or call the appropriate representatives to demand change. Together, we can ensure no more lives are lost.
Thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Concerned Parent
