Houston police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened around 12:15 AM on February 21 at a home located at 1233 South Kirkwood Road.
The man who died has been identified as Pedro Cantu, 62.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a call about a burglary in progress at the home. When officers arrived, they heard at least one gunshot coming from inside.
Police detained a man who had a firearm and found Mr. Cantu suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department transported him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Officers also found another man with a minor gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital as well.
Investigators learned that the 35-year-old man with the gun and Mr. Cantu both lived at the home. Police say a third man had broken into the house. The armed resident was trying to protect the home when he fired his weapon, hitting the suspected intruder and accidentally striking Mr. Cantu.
The suspected intruder, Rodney Dushaw Yoder, 44, was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation. He has been booked into the 209th Criminal District Court.
