A suspect is deceased following an exchange of gunfire with Humble Police Department officers in the parking lot of Academy Sports + Outdoors, located at 9470 W. FM 1960.
According to Humble Police Chief Kris Battenfield, at approximately 12:15 PM today, officers were notified by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office of a potential suspect entering Humble city limits.
While searching the area, officers located a vehicle in the Academy Sports + Outdoors parking lot that matched the description provided by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers made contact with the suspect, and gunfire was exchanged during the encounter.
The suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where the suspect was subsequently pronounced deceased.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Chief Battenfield stated that the investigation remains in its early stages and that additional information will be released as details are confirmed and the investigation allows.
