Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a disturbance around 9 AM yesterday in north Harris County after a woman was confronted by a man described as an ex or estranged partner.
According to HCSO, the man brandished a pistol and took the woman’s vehicle with her infant inside. Officials said the baby is turning 4 months today.
Deputies initially could not locate the man or the infant. As investigators worked the case and pursued charges, information from several sources led them to a residence. Officials flock cameras were among the tools used to help locate him and the baby.
HCSO Deputies, the Houston Police Department, Pct. 7, SWAT teams and the Crisis Negotiation Team worked together at the scene. Officials said they had information indicating the man was armed and might harm the infant, law enforcement or himself.
Teams worked on a tactical plan focused on safely rescuing the baby. During the standoff, SWAT members heard what sounded like a gunshot from inside the residence and immediately entered to rescue the child.
The infant was safely recovered and appeared to be unharmed. EMS evaluated the baby as a precaution. The man was also taken into custody.
At the time of the briefing last night, investigators were still working to confirm whether the suspect had fired a gunshot. Officials said no law enforcement personnel fired shots.
HCSO credited the responding agencies’ training, coordination and decisions under pressure with bringing the situation to a safe conclusion. Shoutout to all our men and women of law-enforcement that were at the scene that worked together to ensure that this baby was safely reunited with their mom.
