SEABROOK, TX – Dawayland Earnest Hurst was taken into Galveston County custody yesterday, October 28, 2024, in connection with the death of Mary Jayne Collins. Mary Jayne was killed on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Teakwood Apartment Complex at 2401 Repsdorph Road, Seabrook, Texas.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy, revealing that Collins died from blunt force trauma and a single stab wound. Evidence gathered during the investigation led authorities to determine that Hurst was inside Collins’ apartment at the time of the incident. Investigators believe he assaulted one of Collins’ children only minutes before police arrived and discovered her body.
This evidence was presented to the District Attorney’s Office, which found probable cause to charge Hurst for his involvement in the case. Record show that he has not yet been charged with murder. Waiting for more updates on that.
