12-YEAR-OLD BOY KILLED BY SUSPECTED IMPAIRED DRIVER IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken a Montgomery County family.
12-year-old Addiel Diaz lost his life after a violent crash that happened on April 6, 2025, on SH 242. That night, Addiel had just left McDonald’s with his mom and two brothers, ages 8 and 13, after watching the Minecraft movie — a night he told his mom was “the best night of his life.”
Minutes later, their Chevrolet Tahoe was rear-ended by a suspected impaired driver near the H-E-B on SH 242. The force of the crash spun their vehicle and crushed the rear, where Addiel was sitting. He suffered massive head trauma and was Life Flighted to the Texas Medical Center, where he later passed away.
His mother, Joana, who was behind the wheel, shared:
“All I remember was seeing his smile when we got impacted. I just want people to open their eyes — drinking and driving takes lives. No mother should have to bury their son because of someone’s irresponsibility.”
Joana and her two other children were also seriously injured and remain in recovery. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, Christian Brandon Castro, was taken into custody and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on July 15, 2025, after an arrest warrant was issued. He is facing several charges, including Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Manslaughter, and two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle.
Addiel’s only wish that evening was to enjoy a movie night with his family — a moment of joy that was stolen far too soon.
