FOLLOW-UP: Charges have now been filed in connection with the fatal crash Hood News covered Sunday night, August 30, in the 5500 block of East Orem Drive.
According to HPD, 20 year-old Luz Villegas has been charged with manslaughter after investigators say a white Jeep Cherokee traveling at a high rate of speed struck a Honda Accord that was exiting a residential neighborhood.
A 24 year-old woman riding in the back seat of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and front passenger were taken to an area hospital.
Police said Villegas, who was driving the Jeep, was not injured and was determined to be impaired. Villegas was arrested and charged in the 232nd Criminal District Court.
The identity of the woman who died has not yet been released pending notification of her family.
