Channelview Man Accused of Shooting at Four HCSO Deputies, Injuring One and Stealing Patrol Vehicle

Chase Layne Patin, 25, is accused of firing at four Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, injuring one of them, and fleeing in a stolen patrol vehicle, according to court documents.
The documents state Deputies responded to a family disturbance in the 1100 block of Bayou Dr in Channelview around 7:45 PM on September 30.
Patin’s mother told investigators her son had been tearing apart his bedroom while searching for something. She said he later demanded the keys to her Ford Bronco Sport. When she refused, he shot a rear tire. She said he then followed her inside and fired into the ceiling. As his behavior became more aggressive, she called 911.
According to statements included in the documents, Patin began firing at Deputies as they arrived. Deputy Javier Perez-Garcia was struck and fell to the ground. Other Deputies took cover and helped him.
Investigators said Patin then took Perez-Garcia’s marked patrol vehicle and drove away. Another Deputy followed the stolen vehicle. Court documents value the patrol vehicle at approximately $60,000.
Perez-Garcia underwent surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. The documents state he suffered gunshot wounds to both legs and damage to his intestines. He was listed in stable condition at the time of the report.
An investigator also reviewed home surveillance video that showed Patin walking outside the residence with a firearm.
The documents list four counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer and a theft offense involving the patrol vehicle.
