COURT UPDATE: MAN SENTENCED TO 50 YEARS FOR SHOOTING EX-WIFE MULTIPLE TIMES TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER JUDGE INCREASES BOND TO $1 MILLION

Aaron Wright, the man convicted of shooting his ex-wife, Andrea Bolton, multiple times inside her Harris County home while their children were sleeping, was taken into custody Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after a judge increased his bond from $175,000 to $1 MILLION!
Wright, who was sentenced to 50 years in prison in April 2025, had been out on bond after Judge Melissa Morris granted him a new trial. That decision was later overturned by the 14th Court of Appeals, which ordered his original conviction and sentence reinstated.
According to victims’ advocate Andy Kahan, Wright appeared in court Wednesday accompanied by his parents and brother.
Judge Melissa Morris was not present for the hearing, and Judge Colleen Gaido presided in her absence.
During the hearing, prosecutors requested that Wright’s bond be increased to $1 million. His defense attorney argued that the bond should remain at $175,000, claiming that nothing had changed other than the denial of Wright’s request for a new trial.
However, Judge Gaido sided with prosecutors and ordered Wright’s bond increased to $1 MILLION.
Wright was immediately taken into custody following the judge’s ruling.
His defense attorney also requested that the previous bond conditions remain in place if Wright manages to post the $1 million bond.
When house arrest was brought up as an additional condition, Wright’s attorney objected, arguing that house arrest had not been part of his original bond conditions.
Judge Gaido reportedly responded, “It is now if he posts Bond.”
This means Wright would be required to remain under house arrest if he is able to post the new $1 million bond.
Kahan praised Judge Gaido for her decision, saying it finally gave the Bolton family some peace knowing Wright was back in custody, at least for now.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T HEARD ABOUT THIS CASE:
In June 2021, Wright cut the electricity to his ex-wife Andrea Bolton’s home in the 9800 block of Memorial Crossing, broke in through a back window, and shot her multiple times while their children were inside sleeping.
Andrea survived the shooting.
In April 2025, a Harris County jury found Wright guilty of burglary and aggravated assault of a family member, and he was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
However, Judge Melissa M. Morris of the 263rd Criminal District Court later granted Wright a new trial, allowing him to remain out on a $175,000 bond.
On October 28, 2026, the 14th Court of Appeals overturned that decision, ruling that Judge Morris had acted outside her legal authority in granting a new trial and ordering Wright’s original conviction and 50-year sentence reinstated.
Despite the appellate court’s ruling, Wright remained free on bond pending further court proceedings.
Andrea previously shared with Grizzy’s Hood News that she and her children had been living in daily fear knowing the man convicted of shooting her was out on bond.
After years of court proceedings, a 50-year prison sentence, and the uncertainty surrounding Wright’s release, Wednesday’s ruling marks another major development in the case.
For now, Wright is back behind bars unless he is able to post the new $1 million bond and comply with the court’s conditions.
