Edgar Villegas Identified as Suspect Accused of Shooting Two Harris County Precinct 4 Deputies

The suspect accused of shooting two Deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office has been identified as Edgar Villegas. Villegas is under police guard at a local hospital while receiving treatment for injuries sustained from a K-9 during his apprehension.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has accepted charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Peace Officer. Once released from the hospital, Villegas is expected to be booked into the Harris County Jail.

On Friday night, Deputies were dispatched around 10:08 PM to the 15800 block of Woodland Hills Dr after reports of a man discharging a firearm at an apartment complex.
When Deputies arrived, they encountered an armed suspect. The suspect opened fire on Deputies, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. During the incident, a Precinct 4 Deputy was shot multiple times.
Fellow Deputies immediately placed the wounded deputy into a patrol vehicle and rushed him for emergency medical treatment. The Deputy was later transferred to Memorial Hermann Hospital’s Downtown Trauma Center, where he continues receiving treatment. Another deputy also was shot.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled into a nearby apartment, prompting a large law enforcement response. With assistance from HCSO SWAT Unit, the suspect was eventually taken into custody.
The suspect sustained a Police K-9 bite during the apprehension and will be transported to a local hospital before being booked into jail.
