Baytown police are investigating a deadly shooting in the 1500 block of South Pruett St, near West Nazro and West Main St.
According to preliminary information from the Baytown Police Department, two men who reportedly knew each other got into an argument. During the altercation, one of the men allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the other.
The suspect has been taken into custody.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity as they are still working to notify next of kin.
South Pruett Street is currently closed in the area as investigators process the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
No additional details have been released at this time.
A witness who says they observed the shooting provided additional details about what they claim happened before, during, and after the deadly encounter.
According to the witness, the victim had just walked out of a nearby store and said goodbye before getting on a bicycle and riding away.
The witness stated that they were pulling out of the area when the first gunshot rang out.
The witness claims the suspect had been sitting inside a white truck, allegedly watching the victim while the victim was at the store.
One of the most disturbing details in the account was the allegation that the shooter had put on earmuffs, apparently to protect their hearing, before opening fire.
The witness claims that as the victim began riding away on the bicycle, the suspect exited through the rear door of the truck and started shooting, striking the victim from behind.
According to the account, the victim fell off the bicycle after being shot but managed to get back on their feet and attempted to run toward Cleveland Street.
However, the witness alleges that the gunfire did not stop.
The witness described the shooter stepping farther into the roadway, spreading their legs apart in what was compared to a military-style shooting stance, and continuing to fire at the victim as the victim tried to get away.
The witness claimed the shooter repeatedly struck the victim as the victim ran, describing the scene as resembling a firing range.
The witness further alleged that after the shooting, the suspect removed the earmuffs, sat down near the truck, placed a rag or cloth on their head, and appeared to act as though nothing had happened.
The witness also claims the victim’s bicycle was moved closer to the suspect’s truck before officers arrived.
The witness believes the suspect’s actions suggest the shooting was planned rather than a spontaneous confrontation.
IMPORTANT: These additional details are allegations provided by an eyewitness and have not been independently verified or confirmed by the Baytown Police Department. Police have not publicly confirmed the claims regarding the earmuffs, the shooter’s positioning, or the movement of the victim’s bicycle.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected as authorities continue gathering evidence.
