A Hood News Peep wants to warn others after her college-aged daughter and many friends became severely ill after visiting a bar on West 20th St in Houston’s Heights area.
According to our Peep, the eight young people were inside the establishment for less than an hour on June 19. Each ordered one drink after having consumed only one drink before arriving. Shortly afterward, all eight became violently ill, had difficulty standing or speaking, and could not remember what happened after ordering their drinks. The daughter called her mom saying she was not feeling well and that she had caught an Uber. Another call came from an unknown number that she didn’t recognize, it was the Uber driver. He called her to tell her that her daughter needed help. She was in the backseat, vomiting and doing things that are not normal of her, including removing all her clothing. She was still alert at one point enough to call her mom. Mom made arrangements to meet about three minutes away from their home. When she got there, she found her daughter without clothing and vomiting, and not able to move. Her and her husband had to load her into their vehicle. It was a very frightening experience and then they found out that their daughter wasn’t the only one with that sort of reaction. They had no clue at the time what they were witnessing.
Over several weeks, they have discovered that this has happened to other young people and not just that group.
After she became sick inside his vehicle, the so called uber driver demanded $120 through Apple Pay. Believing he was the assigned driver, the mother ultimately sent the money through Venmo to an account he identified as belonging to his mother. The peep and her daughter filed a police report with the Houston Police Department. As he was taking the report the Officer asked about the Uber ride and that’s when they made the discovery that the man that they had sent money to did not match the driver that was supposed to pick them up. The daughter’s Uber account shows that her requested ride was canceled. However, another man picked her up and claimed to be her Uber driver.
After filing the report, Mom called the man.
The man reportedly acknowledged that he was not the assigned Uber driver and allegedly said incidents involving severely intoxicated passengers happen frequently. The mother believes unauthorized drivers may be targeting vulnerable young people leaving bars, canceling or intercepting their legitimate rides and then demanding money. When discussing this with other people who were affected in this way, they discovered that this is the same man in many of the incidents.
Our Hood News Peep has sent me screenshots showing that her daughter’s bank records show multiple charges from the establishment within approximately 40 minutes, despite having no memory of making those purchases. Life360 information, transaction records, receipts and other timestamps document when the group arrived and left.
The Peep also reported hearing about another young woman who disappeared for approximately 5 hours after visiting bars in the same area. The woman was allegedly forced out of a vehicle, while Flock camera records l tracked the vehicle as far as Spring. The Peep claims some reports may involve the same vehicles on Friday nights.
A police report has been filed regarding the suspected drugging, and the family says all available documentation has been preserved.
Oh, and one more thing: the Victims were served alcohol as minors. They are between the ages of 18 and 20. None of them had to show ID to make purchases of alcohol.
