Early this morning, two HPD officers were injured during a pursuit after a traffic stop in southwest Houston. Around 1 AM, officers pulled over a vehicle on Richmond Ave for running a red light.
During the stop, Officers detected a strong smell of weed and attempted to detain the 22-year-old driver, who resisted and drove off, dragging one officer a short distance. The officers pursued the suspect but lost control of their patrol vehicle at Woodland Park, crashing into a tree.
Both Officers suffered minor neck and back injuries and were taken to the hospital. They are expected to recover.
HPD tracked the suspect to a nearby apartment, but he fled again. Investigators later contacted his mother, who convinced him to surrender. The suspect was arrested and now faces felony charges, including evading arrest and assaulting a peace officer.
Prayers going up for the Officers to have a speedy recovery!
