VERDICT IS IN! GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER
Day 5 of the Kristina Chambers Manslaughter Trial
The jury has found Kristina Chambers guilty of manslaughter for the April 2023 crash that killed 33-year-old Joseph “Joe” McMullen in Midtown. We’re now waiting to hear word on her sentencing. She was placed in handcuffs and taken to be processed.
Throughout the trial, jurors heard from a passenger in Chambers’ Porsche, a Porsche representative, responding HPD officers, investigators, and toxicology experts who testified about Chambers’ condition and actions leading up to the fatal wreck.
Chambers was initially charged with intoxication manslaughter, but prosecutors later reduced it to manslaughter — a strategic move to strengthen their case.
After deliberations, the jury returned a guilty verdict for manslaughter. Chambers now faces a possible sentence ranging from probation up to 20 years in prison.
For those who may have missed prior posts:
Chambers was driving her Porsche 911 Carrera at nearly 100 mph when she lost control, hit a curb, left the roadway, and struck Joseph, who was walking outside Voodoo Doughnut on Westheimer during what was reportedly a first date. Her car continued into a nearby parking lot, striking a pole.
Paramedics pronounced Joseph deceased at the scene. Chambers and her two passengers were taken to local hospitals. After being released, Chambers was booked into jail on April 24, 2023.
As this case moves into the sentencing phase, Joseph’s parents, family, and friends continue to stand together seeking justice for Joe — who was also a Hood News Peep.
