Around 2:09 AM, officers working a side job at a club in the Midtown area heard several gunshots coming from a parking lot across the street. When they went to investigate, they detained two possible suspects and found multiple victims.
According to police, a fight broke out between several males in the parking lot. At some point, at least one person pulled out a weapon and began firing, striking at least three people. One male collapsed at the scene, while another ran across the street to the 3000 block of Milam before collapsing. Both were transported by Houston Fire Department. One of those victims was pronounced deceased, while the other remains in critical condition. A third victim transported themselves to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Officers say they saw one of the males with a weapon and chased him, but by the time he was taken into custody, the gun had either been dropped or passed off to another person and has not been recovered.
The shooting happened as the club was letting out, and the area was crowded with people heading to their vehicles. At this time, it is unclear what led up to the shooting or whether those involved were connected to the club.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Houston Police Department Homicide Division.
