Matthew Atwater has been charged with Felony Murder with Arson, following the deadly apartment fire early this morning at the Cypresswood Apartments, located at 4607 Cypresswood.
Investigators allege Atwater intentionally set fire to the apartment after arguing with family members. His brother, 40 year-old Andrew Atwater, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Their mother suffered serious injuries.
A 3 year-old child in a neighboring apartment sustained extensive burns, while several other residents were treated for minor injuries.
Matthew Atwater has been booked into the Harris County Jail. Additional charges are possible as the HCSO and Harris County Fire Marshalβs Office continue their investigations.
