There’s an update on Friday’s standoff at the Garden Oaks Village Apartments on North Shepherd Dr. that ended in an apartment fire and two fatalities.
A 20 year-old suspect who had stabbed his brother barricaded himself inside an apartment, where a fire was later set. After firefighters put out the flames, SWAT entered the apartment and found the 20 year-old suspect and his 59 year-old father deceased. At the time the story was first reported, it was unclear exactly how the father had died.
Houston police have now confirmed the 59 year-old father was shot and killed. His 20 year-old son was found with what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say the 20 year-old had stabbed his brother before barricading himself inside the apartment.
The victim was transported to the hospital and stable condition. While officers and SWAT were outside, 2 gunshots were heard and flames were seen coming from inside.
The identities of the father and son are still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
