Aaron Bartholomew Sheehan, 40, has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Anival Elvir Ortiz, 77, who was found at 123 North Drennan Street about 5:55 AM on August 7. Sheehan is charged in the 482nd State District Court.
HPD Homicide Division investigators reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a stabbing call at the above address and learned that a male had suffered a stab wound. He was transported to an area hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased. Officers learned that Elvir Ortiz was riding his bike to work on a nearby bike trail when the suspect came out from behind a fence and stabbed him. The victim managed to reach his workplace, where co-workers called 911.
Detectives, working with Metro Police Department, identified a suspect seen boarding a metro transit bus shortly after the incident. A surveillance video of the suspect was released on August 8.
Further investigation identified Sheehan as the suspect. On Tuesday (August 12), members of HPD’s SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Team took him into custody.
