𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗪 𝗔𝗧𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗙𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗬 𝗠𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘

Matthew Atwater has been charged with Felony Murder with Arson, following the deadly apartment fire early this morning at the Cypresswood Apartments, located at 4607 Cypresswood.

Investigators allege Atwater intentionally set fire to the apartment after arguing with family members. His brother, 40 year-old Andrew Atwater, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Their mother suffered serious injuries.

A 3 year-old child in a neighboring apartment sustained extensive burns, while several other residents were treated for minor injuries.

Matthew Atwater has been booked into the Harris County Jail. Additional charges are possible as the HCSO and Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office continue their investigations.
