HPD has arrested 18-year-old Diego Gene Torres in connection with a fatal shooting early Sunday, Sept. 27.
Torres is charged with capital murder in the 248th Criminal District Court.
Police responded to 10100 Mesa Drive around 1:20 AM and found a man unconscious in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the shooting happened in a parking lot at 9905 Mesa Drive, where the victim and a suspect vehicle met. Police said Torres attempted to rob the victim, and during a struggle, the victim was shot multiple times.
The victim managed to drive away but later crashed into a pole at 10100 Mesa Drive. A security guard working a construction site nearby found the victim.
Police later located the suspect vehicle and detained Torres. According to HPD, Torres admitted his role in the fatal shooting. He was booked into the Harris County Jail on a capital murder charge.
