THESE RACCOONS DON’T PAY RENT A Hood News Peep reached out looking for advice after dealing with what she describes as an ongoing raccoon infestation at her apartment complex, The Old Farm Apartments on Old Farm.
According to the Hood News Peep, she and her family, including a small child, have been living with the issue for approximately three weeks. She says an adult raccoon was removed from the property, and she has videos and photos documenting the removal. However, she claims baby raccoons remain inside the walls and vents and can still be seen through vent openings.
The family says they no longer feel safe or comfortable living in the apartment and want to move out altogether. While management reportedly offered to transfer them to another unit within the same complex, the family says that is not a solution. According to the Hood News Peep, the wildlife contractor handling the situation stated that raccoon activity has been found throughout the property and is affecting multiple apartments.
The family says they want to terminate their lease and relocate elsewhere, but they have been told they will not receive a refund of rent already paid and will not be provided any assistance with relocation costs. Instead, they say the only option being offered is a credit toward another apartment within the same complex.
Adding to their concerns, the apartment complex has reportedly offered to release them from their lease without the usual notice requirements or reletting fees if they sign an agreement. According to the family, the agreement would require them to waive any current or future claims related to the raccoon infestation, keep the terms confidential, and agree not to make negative statements about the property or management.
The Hood News Peep says they feel stuck. They want to leave the property entirely but do not want to sign away potential rights without fully understanding the agreement. They have until the 14th to decide whether to sign.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation involving wildlife infestations, lease termination agreements, or apartment management refusing relocation assistance? The family is looking for information and experiences from others who may have gone through something similar.
